SHORT EYES

SHORT EYES was written in 1972 by Miguel Piñero in a prison writing class while serving time for armed robbery. The winner of the 1974 New York Drama Critics' Circle Award for Best American Play and the 1974 Obie Award Best Play of the Year, the play recieved 6 Tony Award nominations including the 1975 Tony Award for Best Play.

A hard lined drama based on his experiences in prison portrays life, love and death among prison inmates; SHORT EYES examines daily struggles among inmates and workers of the privatized system. In the prodominantly black and Hispanic Un-named House of Dentention in New York City, several inmates navigate through a typical day of life behind bars. When Clark Davis, an unassuming white inmate, enters the floor the others must preserve to keep their 'program' on track.
